  I am hugely ambivalent about "The Shining".

  As a visual experience and a horror film classic with innovative cinematography it is peak Kubrick and therefore (in my own humble opinion) peak cinema. Beautiful and at the same time haunting shots aplenty, thought-provoking symbolism, delicate pacing in an overall well-crafted screenplay and sublime directing (speaking just artistically, his on-set treatment of Shelley Duvall is unjustifiable).
