  I think my new favorite type of horror-comedy is "maniacs trying to kill Samara Weaving in a mansion." 

  Weaving is typically excellent as '90s pop star ingenue Sofia, but it's Ray Nicholson, my current favorite nepo baby, who steals the show and hauls ass out of town as delusional sociopath Paul Duerson, who is equal parts Jim Carrey from The Cable Guy and Robert De Niro from Kings of Comedy.   A Real Pain 2024

  A genuinely well-made, well-acted film about historical trauma and the extent to which it should be allowed to affect the present-day. Kiernan Culkin's performance is indeed Oscar worthy, and I loved the depth to which this explored how the ripple-effect of the Holocaust is still felt to this day. However, this was a one and done for me, due to how frustrating I found some of the characters. A trip I'm probably not going to take again, but a trip I'm glad I took nonetheless.
