    Infernal Affairs

    ★★★★½

Great performances backed up by strong writing. Infernal Affairs is an amazing film worth watching, good enough to inspire Martin Scorsese to create the almost as impressive American version - The Departed. Differences in cinematography and pace set Lau's film apart from it's American counterpart, but there is one pivotal plot decision towards the end of both films that's sole purpose seems to be just to prolong the film. This really took me out of it and made be begin to question everything from then onward. Aside from this one pet-peeve, it's a great film.

  • Howard the Duck

    Howard the Duck

    ½

Howard the Duck is confusing from the get-go. A culmination of classic tropes that do not work well together. Character interactions seem to be written by someone who doesn’t really know how people interact. Huyck’s film suffers from a major identity crisis and is plagued further by predictable plot, bad jokes, and poor writing.

    In the Loop

Incredibly witty satire that gives an accurate portrayal of behind-the-scenes bureaucracy and decision-making. Rife with committees and political backstabbery, In The Loop sheds some light on the convoluted and confusing mess that is the government, without boring the audience. In The Loop manages to make one feel like a fly on the wall, and fans of The Office will love just about everything about it.

  • Ghost World

    Ghost World

    ★★★★★

Ghost World is as well-written as they come. Each character is three-dimensional and genuine but most importantly; they're memorable. Zwigoff captures the very awkward window of post-high school adolescence that everybody suffers through with remarkable accuracy. There were instances in the film where one would be compelled to look away because of how uncomfortable certain situations are, but it's just too good. Amazing film, start to finish.
