The Seed of the Sacred Fig 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I think stronger in the first half than the second. The motivations of certain characters are sometimes a bit confusing. I understand the gun and lack thereof is a direct parallel to the punishment women would get for removing a headscarf and therefore there is a powerlessness there for someone who is not used to that feeling but the point of taking it isnt very clear. No one gains from this, humans get by the best they can and it…

Why does this movie sound like a satire of 90s TV drama? I feel I was just missing something. The acting is great, the story is compelling but it's just campy and bizarre. There are scenes like in the changing rooms where a mirror image is transitioned seamlessly to show a different side to the character which I liked, but when you do things like that it can't seem so in your face. Then it's Black Swan Portman psychotic which I am into, but then things don't seem to go anywhere. I am so confused. This is just stream of consciousness, I just came away bewildered.

Dune: Part Two 2024
I do feel Denis Villeneuve is sneaking art films past people who like Star Wars. In a nutshell it's more Dune. Weirdly it probably could have used another 30 minutes as the end sort of ramps up a little too quickly.
These films are going to be the 2020s Lord of the Rings, Star Wars. They are beautfully shot, brilliantly acted, well written and should be the benchmark for what action films can be. You can do it all and studios need to realise that. People want complex, adult stories with big budgets and everyone will watch it. Just stunning.
