    "I didn't write that song."
    "No, because it's good."
Samara Weaving as 1990-something pop sensation Sofia felt sadly underutilized, but I did laugh at a couple of bits.
I found most of the movie predictable, but I certainly did not foresee a duet of a Celine Dion song sandwiched between scenes of wild violence.

"He is a horror film. A walking, talking horror film."
    Personally attacked.

How serendipitous that I chose a Spring Break-set flick at the start of my Spring Break! There's a lot to love about this pre-Scream comedy tribute to horror tropes:

High school friends start a fight club with the secret purpose to get some, and it morphs into something else entirely. You can tell they had a blast turning 2000s bro comedy tropes on their head while also throwing in some nods to the novel/movie Fight Club. Lots of laugh out loud moments, including the comically ridiculous violence towards the end.

The way I described Pearl to a friend is that you're slipping in and out of consciousness on a Saturday night, you turn on the TV to Turner Classic Movies and you get pulled it by something with an almost Wizard of Oz color palette/aesthetic. The next thing you know you're witnessing the violent spiral of a character closer to Norman Bates or Jack Torrance than Dorothy Gale...and you're entranced the entire time. I'm mesmerized every time I watch Pearl. Mia Goth and Ti West made a masterpiece.
