The Creator 2023
District 9 meets Children of Men - an emotive, developed and exciting dystopia with enough world-building to tease multiple TV series and the wisdom not to over-indulge in context.
The film does lean towards being on-the-nose, and is perhaps not challenging to understand any ideas of sub-text, but it is nonetheless an interesting take on where AI will take us. The film itself isn't ground-breaking, but it's well executed and undoubtedly worth a watch.

La La Land 2016
Not usually a lover of musicals, but La La Land is a film full of music for music lovers, rather than a simple musical.
Being both an homage to musical cinema while also subverting many of the more tedious conventions, La La Land is much a ground-breaking romance as it is a musical.
Gosling and Stone both shine in their roles, and the impact they leave is hard to shake.
