Riff Raff 2024
Another film that proves a great ensemble cast and star power cannot save a bad script. The film is boring until about an hour in when it picks up some steam but only briefly. There’s nothing worse than dialogue that tries to hard to be quirky, leaving the actors with little to chew on. The absolute bright spots were when Bill Murray and Pete Davidson were on screen, but sadly, there’s way too little of that to save this uneven dark comedy that really doesn’t know it’s tone. Jennifer Coolage is way to Jennifer Coolage in this one. Hard pass for the theaters, wait until streaming.

My Dead Friend Zoe 2024
A great premise inspired by true events, this tells the story of a grieving Vet who is haunted figuratively and quite literally by her best friend Zoe. The script was decent and the message was strong. What makes the film uneven is the character of Zoe becoming annoying by always being “on”. Her dialogue is often always throwing in a quip and the jokes rarely landed making the tone feel uneven. Other than that, its an ambitious and thoughtful provoking character study with a great cast.
