Fun movie, didn’t like that he just completely pulls one over on her and ‘wins’ at the end. Like he has to assert his dominance and show her and us, the audience, that he’s smarter before they can be together.
I’m a huge fan of Fury Road and while I was enjoying Furiosa, it didn’t really click with me until the end. Purely as a prequel, as a way to enrich the emotional experience of Fury Road by deepening Furiosa’s character and motivations, I think it’s great. This might have been the best direction to take the movie anyway, since trying to top Fury Road in spectacle and hard-won catharsis would have been impossible. It does mean that Furiosa (the film) is a mite disappointing as a standalone movie though.
It’s a disaster, but takes a while to become a disaster, and is pretty entertainingly bad in its absolute earnestness and its weird combination of worshiping Costner’s character and making him pretty goofy and lame.
In terms of technical command of the craft of filmmaking, this is probably the best movie I've ever seen. It's not one of my favorite movies ever, just because the story and characters are so chilly and emotionless by design. It prevents me from really latching on to anything. But I can't deny how impressive this is as a filmmaking accomplishment.
