Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol 2011
now this is what the fuck i’m talkin about. gave me a strong emotional core to latch onto that i just didn’t really get with the 3rd movie, on top of some of the most outrageously rad stunts and set pieces yet. i really connected with the cast here and i found the payoff between cruise and renner’s characters at the end genuinely very touching. for my money, best mission: impossible movie so far, but we’ll see how i feel next week when i watch rogue nation.

Mission: Impossible III 2006
on paper, this film is a well-oiled machine with a banger cast but for reasons i’m struggling to put into words, it’s the one i found myself enjoying the least so far. it’s slick, it’s bombastic, it’s clever, it’s got fucking Philip Seymour Hoffman as the villain - so why do i only like it?

Star Wars 1977
just watched this for the first time as an almost-30 year old and found myself blown away at how wildly imaginative it felt. the world feels impossibly vast thanks to some incredible set design and world building. characters are immediately likable with motives that had me invested in their adventure. c-3po and r2-d2 had my heart from the very first frame <3
