“Where must we go…
we who wander this Wasteland in search of our better selves?”
It's very difficult for me accurately express how much I enjoy this movie. I could not get it out of my head after my first viewing. It's not just a sci-fi film, or an alien movie, or a story about love, or a critique of the human condition. It's all of those things mixed together with a haunting psychological component. Denis Villeneuve continues to produce some of the best film content from the past decade here, and I don't think enough can be said about Amy Adams and how well she handled some of the most important scenes, often without saying a word.
This is a classic action film from my childhood. Looking at it through the lens of 2021, it is loaded with issues that wouldn’t fly in today’s film scene (and rightfully so). But for all its failings, I can’t help but succumb to the nostalgia, the dumb (but very well done) action sequences, and the charm of Arnold and Curtis here.
About as entertaining as a documentary about typewriters could possibly be. Sky high production values and a great 'cast' of passionate people.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Further proof that this franchise is safe in the hands of its new owners. It has some pacing issues that weren't present in VII, but those last 30-45 minutes really bring the heat. Granted, I can't speak to the quality of the lore here as I'm not a mega-fan of the franchise, but for a casual fan I found it to be another enjoyable entry.
