The Boy and the Heron 2023
dream-like is a very common descriptor for films but I really think it applies here. It is gorgeous yes, but the weirdness is what makes this one of the finest ghibli films. Inspirations feel strongest from spirited away and mononoke but I felt parts of so many of Miyazaki's films in this

The Squid and the Whale 2005
an absolutely beautiful film. I am always a sucker for more somber coming of age stories and a double sucker for anything that looks like a home movie. Beautifully acted and reminds me a lot of every obnoxious thing i've ever said.
