Our Hospitality 1923
#11 of 300 — 300 Film Challenge. Watching three films from every year, 1920-2020.
A fun, surprisingly-watery romp! This film takes some of Keaton’s best moments and crams them into a tight 75 minutes, which is enough for me to rank it highly. There’s a lot Our Hospitality does right — the excellent lighting of the cold open, the technically impressive railway and dam scenes, and per usual, Buster Keaton is a magnetic presence on the silver screen. Even after the reveal, the incredible cinematography continues; the scene from above of them surfacing the water… gorgeous. I loved this!

Safety Last! 1923
#10 of 300 — 300 Film Challenge. Watching three films from every year, 1920-2020.
Not only incredibly funny and charming, but an amazing showcase of physical comedy and stunt work, Safety Last! had me hooked from the jump. Whether he’s hanging off of car doors or dangling from the rooftop, Harold Lloyd shows his impressive strength, which, coupled with his terrified expressions, is so effortlessly entertaining. Even the cinematography aged well! Loved this so so much.
