Renfield 2023
A wonderful nod to 90s horror, the gore was over the top and comical, the villains were caricatures of who they’re supposed to be. Everything is exaggerated and fantastic.
The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars is that it missed something - it seemed a little lacklustre in its wrap up even though I understand the reference of the “easy wrap up” again of older horror cinema. It just fell a little flat.
Overall a wonderful film though and I would recommend it for a “classic bad movie” evening.

A really wonderful return to cinema from Brendan who is a sublime actor.
The story tells the tale of a heartbroken man, wallowing away after the death of his one true love. His estranged family come back into the fold when he realises that his life is soon coming to a close. A very good entry to the guardians movie series, an emotional look into Rockets past with many gut wrenching feelings of loss. However by the end of the film the sad tears shed earlier turn into happy tears as Rocket has his chosen family and they are a strong team.
