This movie spent so much time on CGI stuff that didn’t look good or make sense, when all they had to do was spend some serious time with the metaphor they were weaving. the metaphor that you can miss your mom so much that you rip holes in the universe and you can never outrun your grief and you’re never faster than fate and you can never change what had to happen because your mom will still be gone…that hurt.…

Penny Serenade 1941
Joy and sorrow. Hurts quite a bit. There’s a lot going on in this film, but it’s this weird combination of beautiful shots, intense emotion, and strange life situations. It touches (perhaps unintentionally) on some of the ethics and contradictions of private adoption and the nature of family.
