What if Cimarron was about Brits instead of Americans? That’s this “epic” 1933 Best Picture Winner. It has a lot of the same attributes: the “mawkishness”, the cast of characters who feel forgettable, the sweeping time span (1899-1933). Cavalcade is based on a popular play of the time, and I can imagine how impressive documenting this passage of time would be at the time.

A technical achievement and a heartwarming movie. I wish the film had spent a little less time on every single emote but it does help tell Mats' story in a way his body wouldn't let him.
The film feels like a project from people still grieving their loved one and wanting to make sure his story lives on after them. Watch the movie for the animation achievements and stay for a story about humanity and friendships.

The men in this movie (except the sisters' uncle) are all a level of leering that was less controversial to showcase in 1929. The film resolves with creepy behavior being endorsed.
