    Snow White

    ★★½

Rachel Zegler is a Goddess, but isn't served by the forgettable new songs . The CGI Dwarfs are giving serious uncanny valley. It may just be that Zegler looks younger than her years, but, the apparent age difference with the love interest was creepy.

  • Opus

    Opus

    ★★★½

A mysterious and reclusive Rockstar invites a select group (including a neophyte music journalist) to attend a weekend launch party, for his long awaited opus. Suffers a bit, for its familiarity, but, John Malkovich's Moretti is delightfully unhinged, while Ayo Edibiri makes for a fine final girl. I will just say -- if you show up anywhere that can accurately be described as a 'compound', and, everyone's wearing the same outfit....leave immediately.

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire

    ★★★★

At this point, you either like Zack Snyder's style or you don't. I count myself, firmly, in the latter camp and Rebel Moon is no exception.

This darker riff (think Andor) on the Star Wars saga is highly entertaining and visually imaginative. There are humble farmers, space Nazis, a chosen one, an ambitious Senator, who declares himself Emperor (Regent), cyborgs, massive capital Starships, a rougish smuggler, a sentient robot, laser swords, and several celebrity cameos.

Looking forward to where the series goes, from here!

  • Dune: Part Two

    Dune: Part Two

    ★★★★½

For a film based on an old novel, its theme of reason vs. fundamentalism remains surprisingly relevant. Also -- was that a "more cowbell!" reference I caught?
