It’s actually a miracle I stayed awake bc matinee screening + >3 hr runtime + carpenter center theater + soleil = guaranteed tia falls asleep mid-movie. But I was SO LOCKED IN I didn’t even drink my contraband coffee. Chantal Akerman & Delphine Seyrig worked some SERIOUS amphetamine magic.

Little Women 2019
Liked it more second time round! Rly captures the book’s heart; non-chronological structure works well. Florence Pugh is great in the adult scenes but plays young Amy one-note. Beth is duller and less complex in this version, which misses the opportunity to make her and Jo’s relationship shine. My biggest gripe is the dialogue, which feels stilted—maybe bc it’s inconsistently stylized btwn period and contemporary parlance? Also (in classic Gerwig fashion), speeches are trying wayyyy too hard to drive home…
