There was so much more bad about this movie than there was anything redeeming. The fact that this is sweeping awards is baffling to me. Did this need to be a musical? Did the director know anything about Mexico? Does Selena Gomez know how to speak Spanish? No's across the board.

I put this on last night to have something to watch that I could also scroll on my phone to, since I’ve seen it several times before, but I immediately put my phone down and just watched the whole thing, no distractions. Absolutely delightful film, no notes.

A beautiful dud of a movie. It was really pretty and really, really long. The dialogue made me feel like I was watching an over produced middle school film project. Only Aubrey Plaza and Shia Labeouf seemed to know what film they were in.

The Substance 2024
This one really needed an editor who wasn’t also the director. It was far too long, and also too obsessed with its own delicious, lingering shots. The camera really hovers over the bodies in this film, which was fun for the first 20 minutes and then got boring and just seemed to contribute to film’s run time. Had this movie been 90 minutes instead of 2 + hours I think I would be able to be more fond of it, but instead I’m wondering why it was made.
