We Live in Time 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
It’s reassuring to see a sort of essay film mindful pacing in a mainstream movie. I loved seeing the many inner and relational emotional paradoxes represented. There are many movies about cancer, but they have often carry a linear trajectory. Either one dies or wins. And in reality, it’s a battle, a special kind of battle when it affects one’s reproductive potential. It’s refreshing to see an unidealized romantic devotion that is rare but does exist off the screen.

The Zone of Interest 2023
Emptiest cinema hall in Berlin on a spring Thursday afternoon. Cherry blossoms all around Prenzlauer Berg, yet here I am crying not only because of the past feeling too present, but because since last October, I can’t explain to many of my acquaintances and colleagues the terror and grief I feel. They don’t relate, they are apolitical. Those parties, lunches, breakfasts, fishing trips, they are happening all around me, and all I can do is resent those going, dream of being somewhere else and tell my therapist that my depression is an adequate response to my environment. My depression is my form of resistance right now.

Stolen Kisses 1968
Nothing makes me giggle as much as George Tabard (played by Michael Lonsdale, who will always be Thomas from Out1 for me), hiring a private detective to understand why everyone hates him.
