A few years ago, was my introduction to the uniquely moving movies of HK.
Significance about this movie are the following: guest stars or celebrity cameos of old are subverted for a test of their physical prowess, Stahelski must loathe such classic actorly gripes and instead pursues a skills/ testing ground for action movie combat veterans. Also loathed is a sentiment in liberal therefore conservative sacred cows, instead video game fantasy down to the very dialogue, camera movement, lighting, and character pursuit is indulged for the purpose of decades lasting appeal, not short lived…
Maybe the first epic to scale luxury choices (farming with hands and feet but doors are automatic) with straight faced stray dog ensembles (no one belongs) to the exchanging beats of economic and mythical scrutiny (those luxury and impoverished choices and items have prices, and they’re trading narratively with mythical classical antiquity callback)
