    Probably the most sentimental Coen brothers movie I’ve seen. The high octane screwball comedy is pretty fun, but does reach a moment where you think to yourself oh man they’re really doing this for the whole movie.
    I absolutely love the score of this.

    There are so many things in this movie that make no fucking sense when you scrutinize them even a little bit. Not even plot points, but the things people are actually saying to each other. In addition to the many continuity errors, it’s like Thelma Schoonmaker edited together different responses from different conversations from different takes.
    It completely works.

    Somehow too on-the-nose while completely missing the mark. Hammered over the head with tepid political commentary, so many threads that go nowhere, and literally zero stakes at any moment. Even the flaccid climax, saving everyone from having their brains exploded, is a total bluff!

    The only political commentary I can glean from this is “our leaders evil and stupid”. Well, yeah. Does this movie have anything to say about that? Not really, no.

    This certainly falls victim to high expectations.

    I thought Guy Pearce was going a little overboard at first but he really is electric in this. Laszlo as a character is truly in Adrian Brody's wheelhouse: doing a fake little accent, weeping, swinging that big beak around.
