Slavoj Žižek genuinely does provide valuable insights in his analyses of cinema in this film, it's just hard to find among the incoherence which let the film down for me.

This film is actually quite pessimistic and leaves one pessimistic for the future, but it's immensely human. One finds himself fearing their life's hardships but is forced to grapple with the fact that such lives are ultimately inevitable. Simultaneously, it teaches us valuable lessons on the impacts that certain decisions make over the course of our lives. It's an incredible portrait of capitalism and patriarchy and I strongly encourage giving it a watch.

It was a nice enough story but one I thought wasn’t particularly innovative or ambitious. There was no development of Taika Waititi’s style of cinema and it felt to me like it was more of a copy and paste of what someone other than Waititi has identified as the most charming parts of his past films and tried to apply it without much effort. It felt to me like the crappy sort of film your teachers would show you in year 3 when they don’t know what else to do with you before the holidays.

Spectacular. Awesome. Everything I wanted from a Wes Anderson film.
