New York in its ever quickening descent into greed fueled decay and debauchery. New York is a character as much as any in this film, as we explore the hidden trash and ugly underbellies of NY in this crime drama. No one is left unaffected by the decay of this city as even are protagonists are revealed to have questionable morals. No man and no city can accumulate such riches without turning the attentions of other more perverse impulses.

    Brilliant…

Striking. Chilling sensation when I started to realize this is lived experience for more than some. Incredibly precise lines drawn between self-confidence, self defense, and self-deception, in this odd triangle of relationship (Father-Mother-Son). Wounded people never respond without some amount of self-defense...Incredibly acted. Slow at points for me. I think you could trim 15-20mins here or there to really tighten up this film. 3.5 stars for me on the first watch.

Honestly, I liked this story quite a bit. Yes, pretty cheesy monsters. Yes pretty predictable jump scares and deaths. But on the other hand some wonderful acting, some very human threads. I'm a sucker for a thriller. Getting to see the difficulty and bravery of choices when humanity is pushed to the brink.
