While Shrek may be lauded for the meme goldmine the franchise is at this point, it's hard to deny that the script for the original movie is really well done, this remake being case in point. I don't think I've ever seen a film that is designed to be controversial yet somehow is able to allow any viewer to see their political ideology in it due to the sheer lack of an overall message.
That being said Pheonix does a great job as always and I quite enjoyed all the technical aspects. Just wish that the script had more to actually say with it's social commentary instead of dancing around it in a way to make it applicable to as many people's worldview as possible.
