Heretic 2024
This does have many of the Elevated Horror trappings and sensibilities that I often struggle to vibe with, but I found it to work well enough here, and I definitely respect what the film is doing. By Reed’s own admission, he’s a case study in what’s wrong with abusive and conceited religious authority figures, and it is a religion - whether he believes in an actual supernatural mandate for his behaviour is unclear, and ultimately not what’s important.

The Monkey 2025
Much like Longlegs, this is a film that’s got some fun spooky visuals and a few good performances, but it’s so narratively thin with such ephemreal core mechanics that it just doesn’t feel satisfying when the credits roll. Hoping Perkins can one day deliver a cohesive and satisfying experience with this whole vibe and aesthetic he’s clearly so invested in.
