Have you ever felt so uneasy it’s almost difficult to describe what you’re even looking at, yet so compelled by the unusual feelings that you refuse to blink so you don’t miss a thing? That’s more or less how I felt during the entirety of this strange and magnificent film. Welcome to the most vivid lucid dream of your life, straight from the magical mind of director Yorgos Lanthimos. Poor Things showcases the irony, horror, and utter nonsensical illusion that…

Welcome to the inner workings of the modern stock market, a place of infinite complexity and where the fat cat hedge fund managers (usually) always win. Insert Keith Gill, a nerdy Redditor who rallies a nation of average Joe investor hobbyists to fight the power and make their fortunes stealing from the rich. This movie is an honest insider view of how convoluted and overwhelmingly complex our financial institutions have become. And within this exposé of modern economics lies an underdog rags to riches story that inspires the dreamers in all of us.

    ★★★

Michael Clayton, played by an infectiously determined George Clooney in his prime, is a ‘fixer’ at a renowned corporate law firm. What begins as a corporate drama where characters question their own morality, quickly turns to a murder mystery thriller, giving the film the spice it needed to capture the audience’s attention. While no revolutionary masterpiece, it showcases an intriguing take of two worlds colliding and Clooney’s elegant swagger keeps you fixed on whatever predicament his character finds himself in. At moments it can be overly smart, but the twists, turns and high stakes of this unique film make it a worthwhile watch.

Sex, lies, beautiful people and ugly personalities. Incredible set design and intoxicating cinematography keep you focused even if the plot might be overly abstract for most. This movie fits well in the new wave of over-stylized built for social media type films, which act better as conversation topics than entertainment of true substance. Worth a watch, memorable scenes that are definitely unsuitable for younger audiences - but will it last the test of time
    ? I highly doubt it.
