The Measure of a Man 2015
The original French title of this film, La loi du marché [The Law of the Market] conveys directly and brutally the theme it tackles, but with the English speaking world being full of capitalist pigs, we get this whitewashed title that nevertheless broaches the main subject: the value of people as political subjects under capitalism is zero unless they generate a profit for someone. An endless parade of humiliations endured just to get a job with shit pay where you are forced to become the lap dog of the hidden powers that make the money go round. Brilliant entry in the "Life is hell" canon.

Welcome, or No Trespassing 1964
The Soviets sent a man in space before the Americans, and made a Wes Anderson film before Wes Anderson.

Beau Travail 1999
The closest narrative film has ever come to pure cinema. Bodies in motion, synchronized, choreographed for a single purpose, the scorching heat felt through closeups on the human skin, the ever present threat of violence, the routine of work and the rhythm of the night. A mesmerizing work of art so beautiful yet so opaque that I am sure will come to haunt me many times from now on.
