Beautiful performance from Cate. The predatory lesbian trope always leaves a bit of a bitter taste but I think in this case the gender of the protagonist serves its purpose in getting the audience to sympathize & question guilt in a way that would not work if the main character were a man. It also creates the possibility for the character to have an interesting interaction with the stories of personal failings of famous composers, some of which are mentioned explicitly.…
