A lot to unpack but one thing that stuck with me is the films message about our desire to be free and the tension between control and curiosity. The children are subject to systematic and complete control by the parents. They are not aware of this control (at least not the extent of it). But their curiosity about the outside world leads them to rebel and seek freedom; first small acts, then bigger. Does this search for freedom end in happiness though? Not clear from the ending.
