A Real Pain 2024
This oozes with the same sort of discontent as a lot of Jesse Eisenberg stuff and I’m not mad about that. Overall I like that the story didn’t neatly come together for some everything-is-okay-at-the-end type of finish and there’s is certainly substance here, but it all feels kind of forced and weird, like the movie should have been 30 minutes longer so characters randomly spilling their guts doesn’t feel so awkward, rushed, or inappropriate. I do like that at the end I can’t tell who I’m supposed to feel worse for; that gave me honest pause.

A totally watchable film that I did enjoy (mostly because I really like tennis), but I’d be hard pressed to argue that this is a good movie. Some inexplicable camera work, some rough acting on Zendaya’s part, and some dialogue that leaves you cringing. Fun idea and watchable but meh overall.

I Love You Phillip Morris 2009
Not a terrible movie but some parts feel in bad taste and it left me feeling kind of disquieted and uncomfortable and sad. Had a few good laughs though, glad to have watched, won’t watch again.
