Such a loose film. The beginning of “cringe humor.” Lots of long takes and dialogue heavy scenes. Very observational filmmaking style. One of those films where the more you sit on it the better/funnier it is. Character driven. Dialogue driven. Power of simple sets and simple filmmaking with a simple story.
Based on a book with the same name. About a group of people that crash land and get brought into the utopian city of Shangri-la. Starts incredibly slow. Lost of stilted dialogue and sexist character portrayals. But has some really interesting philosophical principals of moderation, purpose, and the meaning of life. Impressive scale and sets for a film of its time. Kinda lackluster ending and turn when the main character decides to go home, loses his memory, remembers then decided to come back.
Fucking. Great. Film. Always a sucker for Tom Cruise but Emily Blunt rocks it as one of the most badass female characters ever in film. Such tight filmmaking. Excellent edit and score that never drops the ball and still manages to surprise you as it twists and turns. Such an underrated sci fi flick that deserves more recognition.
