  slow cinema can be really hit or miss for me, but this one scratched that itch. it makes its pacing clear from the start, which imbues the film with a sense of intentionality. i think the akerman parallels are apt, and i can see this as a precursor to the slow cinema of the iranian new wave too

  i’m not sure how i feel about the retrospective canonization of this film in iranian cinema history (although i am certainly not the one to be making those decisions). since it was basically forgotten in its time and never screened in iran, it occupies an interesting position
