I watched this again. I remember liking this more initially. The cinematography and the two lead performances still hold up. However, the varnish has worn off the script and the "self-importance" of the story. The film attempts to elevate a hidden figure and argue that the code-breaking machine single-handedly took down the enemy forces. And YET, after completion of the code-breaker, we still had TWO years of fighting, bloodshed, and a shift in focus towards espionage...Bit like arguing that Q from the Bond films was responsible for the collapse of the Berlin Wall because he invented a rocket launcher for the Aston Martin...

Never has a film about losing one's soul been so exquisitely shot. Filmed in black and white in a noir style which compliments the degradation of the character's motives and actions. The script is wickedly sharp and excellently acted by the leads. Really enjoyed this. Holds up well after 65 years.
