Labyrinth 1986
Crazy that the evil stepmother went on to marry supervisor of the Sunnyvale Trailer Park Jim Lahey. Early Harry Potter references with Hogwart, staircases, and... well, a labyrinth. Also The Matrix with the red door / blue door. Production design is the MVP here. The sets were just incredible. Also so many wonderful practical effects and using the camera as a tool with things like forced perspective. Narrative was thinner than 2-ply but for a Muppet Odyssey it was a fun little ride.

it has everything I've come to expect from a bong film - capitalism, bioethics, animal cruelty, social order... but this time - in space! in the future! and a noticeably much larger budget! perhaps there are too many hats on hats on hats and an inflated runtime here, however, I understand it's hard to fit all your white supremacy and saucier subplots into a digestible length... also macaron loan sharks... also the cult-like marriage of religion and state... this movie really is a lot. but! really enjoyed the performances. the dinner scene was the standout for me. had fun in imax on a stormy thursday night.
