Japanuary film 12: a film by Gakuryū Ishii

Wait a second... you mean all families aren't like this?

The Crazy Family is a masterpiece of dark comedy. Ishii takes the traditional Japanese family drama, with its long history in cinema and proceeds to take his punk rock sensibilities to it creating a film that would be absolutely horrific if it wasn't so damn funny. Japanuary film 10: a film recommended by Ben

Based on four short stories by Japan’s own Edgar Allen Poe, Edogawa Ranpo (say his name out loud and fast to get the pun), this is an extremely artistic anthology film.

Weird. Beautifully shot silent film (I’ll be honest, I almost thought my bluray was broken until static noise started as there is zero sound for a bit) that makes no sense without interpretation. There a few ways I could…
