    dude killed his fucking wife!

i really appreciate how the movies from this era ride so heavily in the individual performances and the twilight zone level twists and turns in the script.  additionally the vistavision was clearly in use to showcase the beautiful landscapes of san francisco especially during the first half when the detective chase is fully on.

this is my third hitchcock film and i have to say i prefer his zaniness and the larger cast of…

bong joon-ho is clearly pretty mad about a lot of stuff, the result is a story that has maybe 1 or 2 too many themes rooted in commentary of american politics and economic system as they don’t all receive the same level of attention. many of them feel clever and play very well, while others feel a little too on the nose and forced.  where parasite’s statement on wealth disparity feels timeless and universal, this film’s critiques feel a bit…

when i think of eggers’ best, i think about the surreal strangeness of the vvitch and the lighthouse, a story that is near impossible to track on a first viewing that is spliced with fantastic and wild imagery, with nosferatu it just felt so….straightforward. perhaps it is due to the subject matter already existing and this being an adaptation, but the “weird” was pretty contained as dream sequences and the mystery of orlok didn’t seem that hard to sort out,…

    Becoming Led Zeppelin

    ★½

30 mins of the band members reacting to old footage of themselves, intertwined with 90 additional minutes of music playing in front of image montages or straight up concert footage/audio.

this experience was no different than listening to best of led zeppelin on spotify while scrolling the google image results for “led zeppelin 1969 tour”.

i can only hear “oh i remember this show, it was crazy” so many times before my brain explodes, it was truly a youtube level documentary thrown on a big screen, thank god i have a-list or else i would hate myself for spending cash on this.
