beautifully grim. so much solitude and suffering in this movie but the atmosphere and story are so easy to get engrossed in that i'm always thinking about rewatching it.
favorite part plot-wise is following along with the progression as toller becomes a reflection of michael following his suicide. something i didnt really appreciate until this time around is the contrast between toller's slow, patient talk with michael at the beginning versus pastor jeffries's stern, principal's-office confrontation with toller once he's in michael's position at the end. heartbreaking.
it's a 5er
made me feel really really bad. i related to this movie way more than i thought i would. it was exactly as fun, bold, gross and stylized as i wanted it to be, but there were also so many sequences and line reads that just cruuuuuuushed me. demi and margaret say things out loud to themselves that i've said out loud to myself verbatim before!
there were like 3 points during the movie where i was like "oh it's gonna…
it was deece! kinda went straight through me though. everyone in this movie is braver than i’ve ever been, i was scared to clear my throat for half the runtime. i was actually looking forward to the reliable spikes in volume because they could mask the sound of my big ass adjusting my posture in the theater

i had zero batman experience going in (besides knowing the names of some people) but i'm a sucker for a movie about a serial killer who makes a detective solve a ton of long-ass puzzles just to find him. i'm also a sucker for paul dano playing a hilarious loser. rly enjoyed his presence on-screen. my friend said he couldn't take him seriously at all but it worked for me. you're definitely meant to laugh at him. i mean, the ? latte art, the mic peaking during the bomb phone call, the neutered "hey guys" on his youtube channel... great material
