Having read the book this is based on I already had the bar high for this, and Scorsese completely makes this story his own. Cinema is perhaps the best medium for making you understand what it’s like to be in someone else's shoes, and through centring the story on Ernest and Mollie we really get to understand the dysfunctional and tragic nature of their relationship, and the pain of Ernest’s betrayal. This honestly feels like the crowning achievement of Nolan’s career. Probably his most mature and in some ways his most ambitious film to date, it is a technically fantastic, with the sound design, editing and cinematography all helping to convey the inner turmoil of Oppenheimer.
