Add another Soderbergh to my “love” list. Absolutely loved the scale and closed worldness of Black Bag. The cast also works so well together. Soderbergh is being himself here. Why the hell are all of the light sources super blown out? Because he wanted them to be and because it totally worked for this film. I can’t say the same for the blown out light sources in Wicked.

Goodness! So ahead of its time and so unnerving. Has a lot on its mind and has a lot to say about it. Brilliant stuff

The storytelling, emotional beats, acting, dialogue, filming style, and outcome were all too basic, and it made for an insipid watching experience. It felt like the typical movie that your in-laws or an aunt or uncle would recommend to you because they know you like movies. Their hearts are in a good place, but their taste isn’t.

Very little of this came together for me. It wasn’t nearly funny enough even though it tried. It took itself too seriously and sincerely at points, and then not seriously enough at other points. The action was not nearly exciting enough to sustain interest.

The film’s biggest sin is a reveal before the halfway mark that completely undermined all of the stakes it had. Everything felt meaningless after this point and left the audience with nothing to look forward to in the end. Jack Quaid felt like the right fit, but the filmmakers took a fun concept and turned it into an identity crisis in motion.
