No internal logic or compelling characters, and way too much telling rather than showing. Some of the nostalgic throwbacks were fun, but it leaned too hard on a genuine classic to provide those momentary thrills.

Loved it as a child, pretty disappointed in it as an adult. I don't think it has intentionally nefarious messages, as some other reviewers believe, but I do think that it drowns in its own sap. Shawshank and Pulp Fiction have held up much better from that year's class of Best Picture nominees.

Pure fucking adrenaline. No time is wasted. No long rehash of the back story (except the quick flashbacks that I found slightly unnecessary, hence the half-star from perfection). The visuals are stunning. George Miller made the movie he always wanted to. More of this, please.
