From the very beginning of the film, Antoineβs journey is one of never-ending rebellion against societal authorities, be them his parents, teachers, or government figures. All Antoine wants is to be free, to become his own man, to grow up. Most people describe this piece as a coming-of-age story, but I rather view it as a story of a kid who desperately wants to come of age.
