The absence of excitement, for lack of a better word, is what makes me love this film. The relatively limited amount of areas shown, the lack of music, how the perspectives of both very different people are shown separately as well as together and the camera shots make this film great.
Simply beautiful. I remember hearing Karaindrou’s work for this film a while back and being mesmerized. One of those films you need to go back and rewatch to let it all sink in. Cinematography, characters, music, the unique story-telling, they all come together for piece. Great work.
Great documentary that actually shows several points of view that at times very much do contradict each other. Great music as to be expected, and beautiful cinematography.
Very interesting man, might I add. I was first introduced to him with this film.
One of my favorite films of all time, saw it first in a Russian avante-garde exhibition alongside other works of art from the era.
Capturing daily life, the transformation and advancements that took place post-1917, from cities and rural areas to bustling factories and transport. Vertov and Kaufman utilize cinematic techniques far beyond their time such as double exposure and match cuts. The editing proves to be very good at visual story telling within the first 20 minutes of the film. Highly reccomend.
