Jamie Foxx plays Jamie Foxx, in this film and I’m convinced Taron Egerton took the role just so he could have archery lessons paid for. Not the worst film I’ve seen, certainly provides periods of entertainment, but the caricatures of clergy are outdated and the trope of “Catholic Church=Bad Guy” has been over done. I saw this in a Drive-In theater and due to many scenes shot in the darkened interior of a space ship I struggled to see what was going on. That being said I DID NOT like the weird creatures that save Mickey initially.
While I don’t consider myself a social commentator I do like the exploration of what it means to be “expendable” in the film and the pursuit of the perfect sauce. I took this film with guarded humor…
