This is a very important story and some incredible images that stick in the mind (the cross dragging from the car, the leaflet sliding down the wall, the back POV recounting the faces on the screen) but I think the amount of these complicated shots and POVs took away some power that could have been placed on the landscape and the vast oppressiveness surrounding the characters that still remains to this day. The presence of the acting and story suffers a little bit. Hale County is a masterpiece but this one didn’t quite get the sweet spot.
