Hereditary 2018
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Very Rosemary’s Baby inspired clearly, can’t help but feel that the final cult reveal doesn’t serve this film in the same way though. Toni Colette’s performance as a first broken daughter then mother is so gripping and her descent into destruction so thorough that it feels to me more interesting to view the film through her own damaged and warped world view, rather than as part of a larger scheme?
Obviously this film came out a few years ago now but I am weary of the modern fixation on ‘strange and uneasy events take place to disrupt perfect middle-class suburbia with undertones of weirdness’.

Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones 2002
Attack of the Clones they could never make me hate you. Way way too much sauce. Anakin flawed Jesus in his moment of doubt and pain allegories, subtle Imperial March needle drop after taking revenge on his mother’s killers, Vader helmet looking shadow shot, Kamino best prequel system, Geonosis Arena, Padmé white outfit, Samuel L’s Mace Windu, Christopher Lee’s Count Dooku, Dooku boss fight etc etc etc.
The negatives: bad acting and cringe dialogue. Several times you can clearly tell…

Poor Things 2023
Didn’t feel it. Seemed to me a big part of the message was around the only way of finding ourselves is through sexual liberation and not the world or friendships or emotions or nature or society or any of the things I believe are essential to defining self.
Looked great, sounded great, there’s the two stars.
