I am not sure where I stand with this series. I've read the book and the series definitely leaves some stuff out. Objectively it's a thrilling epic that portrays historical Japan in the most authentic way you could ask for. Personally, i found it too dragged out and was left disappointed at the love story between Mariko and John, so passionate in the book, but lacking and constrained in the series.
