  The atmosphere and practical effects are insane, and it builds intrigue to wtf is going on but what answers it does give are slight. You don't care about the characters but you do get a rare lovecraftish film that is definitely high effort, just a shame the script is meh. I wish more cosmic horror got this level of production design/budget and craft. It's sooooo close to nailing it but yes the story is thin. The end feels like it's building to go buck wild, psychedelic far out shit but just kind ends. More like a 2.75

  His English language films just can't seem to come together, tones that clash inelegantly, dialog is dumbed down and commentary just smashing u in the head. Robert P was v watchable. It was FINE, but a mess. Parasite, Host and Mother all just work so well. Like Okja and Snowpiercer, M17 fails to coalesce. Also, the film didn't feel cinematic like his Korean films do. Hopefully 5 years don't pass before his next film

  Okay, this movie was incredible. The flogging/music number was truly insane and objectively perfect. This is the most movie a movie has ever been. Extremely homoerotic, goddamn it. The amount of creativity is absurd. The leads are amazing....fuck, this music is pure euphoric joy

  Holy cow what a dark and layered film. The actors all uniformly killed it ESP Charles as Joe, his body language of a little kid. Portmans vampire like actions and Juliannas just creating this fantasy world. The mirrors, and cameras movements. Just blown away by this film.
