Freddy Got Fingered 2001
In 2000 Tom Green had the keys to the kingdom. He could have stuck to his normal safe-ish format and made millions. Instead he made a surreal film that paved the way for comedians like Tim and Eric and other surreal and absurdist comedy just a few years later. In retrospect, this movie is way funnier than I remember and I actually can’t believe I’m giving it 4 stars but it’s really forgotten comedy gold.

Sixteen Candles 1984
As a young man, I watched this movie countless times on the USA network. It was considered a pretty mild 80s comedy at that time. This movie would never get made today, but it’s also an interesting look at how our culture has changed and shifted. Looking at the past through the lens of present awareness and sensibilities can result in erroneous and damaging attitudes. Still a really fun watch
