4.5 - Near perfect / perfect
5 - Perfect + je ne sais quoi feeling
Pretty mid writing, nothing visually interesting occurring in the slightest. Never seen a movie mis-utilize talent like this; was waiting for the J.K. Simmons return that didn’t occur, Toni Collette and Nicholas Hoult just did fine with what they had.
Just didn’t make me think whatsoever.
I’ve got to rewatch Anatomy of a Fall.
Saw this as a Screen Unseen movie at AMC so I can confidently say I went in with 0 expectations given I didn’t even know what I was seeing. I will also acknowledge I’m not the target audience.
About 5 people walked out at various points. Just extremely vapid millennial humor centered around poop jokes. There were 1 funny recurring bit and 1 legitimately funny scene, but otherwise this was not for me.
RAHHHHH COME ONNNNN
Also something I hadn’t put together my first viewing - when Art and Tashi finally become a couple outside of the Applebee’s, they’re interrupted by the trash being taken out. The trash is taken out. Hadn’t connected that to the trash literally blowing back into town when Tashi cheats on Art with Patrick. It’s the little things that make this movie work so well—replacements and role reversals, doubling and being edited into one whole.
Patrick might be a piece of shit, but Art is the real loser. You can hear it in his voice in the sauna - I win. A lot.
