Finally saw this one, which I’ve been meaning to get to for a while. Ashton Kutcher was surprisingly good in a dramatic role, and it didn’t sugarcoat things (at least, not much) about how difficult a guy Jobs was. Also pleasantly surprised by Josh Gad as Steve Wozniak.

Lots of fun, and surprisingly on-point reactions to the surrounding wackiness from many of the characters.

    Girl: *screams in terror*

Police officer: *knocks on the door* “Are you okay?”

    Girl: “No?!”

Rewatched before seeing Part 2… In terms of writing and most of the acting, it’s a masterful adaptation. Visually, I admit to missing the bright costumes from Lynch’s film… but the trend nowadays is for everything (even superhero outfits) to look gritty and gray or earth-toned, so hey. Also appreciated some possible nods to the version Jodorowsky wanted to make that came through in some visual moments and in this film’s use of music. In all, an excellent film that can (finally) impress longtime fans of the novels.

Absolutely stunning, even on rewatch — plus, this time, I could spot the hints of how things would turn out with Strauss and other characters.

One criticism I have, though, is that while most of the actors are able to disappear into their roles, Kenneth Branagh always seems to stand out just a bit too much to really work for serious acting (at least since the ‘90s). But regardless, the film is superb and definitely worthy of the praise.
